WELCOME back to everyone at Queen's Drive Infant School! I hope that you have all had a lovely summer and are pleased to be back to school. We have already had an eventful start to the new school year.

I would like to say a special welcome to all our new children and their families as we start the new academic year. We also have some teachers to mention too. Firstly welcome back to Mrs Scarth who has retuned after her maternity leave and also to Miss Gordon and Miss Sheikh, our new teachers.

I hope that you are all ready for a term of fun and learning.

ONE-WAY SYSTEM AND PARKING

As you will know, we follow a strict one-way system around school. This is done for the safety of our children and their families as the paths are narrow in and out of school and our numbers are large. We appreciate that it can be frustrating for those closest to the entrance / exit gates but we feel that it really is a fair system with everyone walking the same distance. Thankyou for your support in this.

Again this year, we continue to take part in the council scheme of closing off the road. This continues to make a huge difference to safety on the road outside the school. Please remember that staff who are out on the road are following the guidance set by the council.

READING AT HOME

Your children will have started bringing home their reading books. They will receive 2 reading books each week and a lending library book for you to share at a story time. Books will be changed on a Friday.

These must be brought into school daily in a book bag. (not a rucksack as these are too big to fit in their tray).

READING CHALLENGE AND HOME LEARNING AGREEMENT

We are encouraging parents to read for 10 minutes each night with their child. This is the home learning for your child, which you as parents have signed in the home school agreement to complete.

Wide evidence and research show that reading with your child has huge benefits on reading progress. This is why we are going to monitor the home reading record. If your child reads at least 3 times each week they will be rewarded with a reading prize at the end of the 6 weeks.

It is important that you sign their reading record each time they read.

Please:

  1. Write the name of the book.
  2. Initial/sign and draw a smiley face to show that they have read. You can even leave a comment or question so your teacher can feed back to you after the Friday.

Thank you for your continued support with your child's reading. Please remember reading opens the door to a rich wealth of knowledge learning.

ATTENDANCE

We are hoping for much improved attendance this year now that most Covid restrictions are behind us. We want children to achieve their best at Queen's Drive and attending every day really does count.

WB 5th September 2022 - Whole school attendance was 93.81% which is below our target of 95%.
