‘THE WRITE STUFF’

In year 1 we are continuing our writing journey using the ‘The Write Stuff’ with Jane Considine.

This half term the children will be using the texts Little red Reading Hood to explore fiction and Grace Darling  through BBC Film to learn how to write a biography

We will also be having a poetry week in line with National Poetry day.

Handwriting 

We are having a whole school focus on handwriting this year. The teachers have had training from 'ISHA Handwriting and Art'. 

The children may have told you about the new guidelines we will be using in school. An example of these is shown here.

 

SCIENCE

The children will be exploring the unit 'Animals including Humans where they will be learning the importance of exercise, eating healthy and hygiene.

The children will be using fitness watches to monitor and track their steps and exercise.  They will beale to use data collected by the whole class.

HISTORY

What was life like for a Vicyorian child? The children will think about events beyond their own living memory. They will take a Step back in time to a Victorian school on our trip to Stibbington. 

They will also explore famous people from Victorian life like Grace Darling and Queen Victoria.

 

Art

The children will be deepening their understanding of sketching/painting in order to explore portraits. They will be looking at portraits from  our past Kings and Queens concentrating on detail and pattern. They will also have chance to find out more about Pablo Picasso and the techniques he used to create art.

MATHS

  • ·Number facts  to 20. recalling all facts speedily.
  • Place value (2 digit numbers)
  • Addition and subtraction of a 2 digit number and 10's
  • ·Counting in 2,5,10
  • ·2-D and 3-D  Shape properties
  •  fractions of a shape

Help at home telling the time. O’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, Recognising coins and making amounts.

 

E-Safety

It is still a high priority of ours to teach the children how to safely access the internet.

Please keep a look out at home what your child is accessing online.

Home Learning

Home learning takes place through Seesaw online platform.

ALL LOG IN DETAILS ARE TO BE FOUND IN YOUR CHILD’S READING JOURNAL.

Maths home activities will be set for children to complete online using MATHLETICS. They will be set each Thursday.. You will find maths games on here to develop speed in solving calculations too.

 

Helping your child with

reading

Your child’s reading book will be changed every Friday. They will also bring a  lending library book home too. 

Remember to read every day with your child. This could be you reading to them or them reading to you.

Reading Challenge

At the end of the week if your child has read at least 3 times they will get a reading sticker.  If they keep this up over the half-term they will get a reading prize. Please remember to write in your child's reading record when they have read.

  • Sports Week 26th to 29th September. 
  • Stubbing school trip, Remember to dress up on your day. Elephants 23rd September,  Whales 27th September, Tigers 29th September.
  • National Poetry Day - 6th October. The children will be entering a poetry competition thinking about the environment so look out for some of their poems on our website.
  • Year 2 story cafe. A chance to come into school to work alongside your child on reading activities based around the story 'The Scarecrow's Wedding'. SQUIRRELS -ELEPHANTS 9.00 - 10.00   TIGERS- 10.15-11.15  WHALES 1.15-2.15
  • SAVE THE DATE - YEAR 2 PARENT  MEETING ON Tuesday 2nd NOVEMBER AT 9.00. Mrs Talbot will be discussing expectations for this year.
