‘THE WRITE STUFF’

In year 2 we are continuing our writing journey using the ‘The Write Stuff’ with Jane Considine.

They will be creating a narrative writing based on the story Ther crow's Tale'   

We will also be thinking about instruction writing based around instructions on  'How to make a Bird Feeder'

Handwriting 

Handwriting is still developing. The children are continuing their daily lessons is letter formation and we are seeing a real impact. They have started to learn to join their handwritingand we are seeing much success with this.

SCIENCE

Living Things and their habitats

The children will use their local environment and the visit to The Great Fen to  compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and things that have never been alive.

They will be identifying many animals and plants from the local environment.

 

 

They will describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain,

They will identify and name different sources of food. For example...... grass, rabbit, fox

The Great Fen was a marvellous trip and the children all enjoyed themselves learning a lot from the countryside environment

Geography

How is Great Fen different to our Local area?

Human and Physical

The children will recall key features physical and human in the local area and compare to Great Fen. How and why are they different / the same?
 

Geographical skills and field work – identifying places on a map, They will follow a route on a map, be able to draw / create their own maps with a title, physical and human features, key, North arrow and scale. These can be real, from a story or imaginary

WOW DAY!

We were lucky to have had Chef Darren from 'Roots to Food' join us for the day. All the children had a fabulous time chopping, slicing, stirring in order to create a delicious 'Singapore Noodles'. I can safely say there were clean plates all round!

Computing

This half term the children will be using the programs they have being taught on purple mash within their topic work activities.

ART

How do sculptures stay upright? 
The children will be exploring how different artists use nature as inspiration for their art pieces of work.

They will be sketching of objects and finally creating sculptures from natural materials such as Clay. The children will be looking at work by different artists especially Barbara Hepworth. (shown below)

MATHS

  • ·Number facts to 10. recalling all facts speedily.
  • Understanding tens and ones in a number
  • Addition and subtraction subtracting ones from a number using apparatus. 
  • Counting in x2, x5 ,x10, x3 and showing this through pictures.
  • Recognising the coins
  •  fractions of a shape and fractions of numbers. (1/2, 1/4)
  • Doubles and halves.

Help at home telling the time. O’clock, half past

 Recognising coins and making amounts in different ways.

 

E-Safety

It is still a high priority of ours to teach the children how to safely access the internet.

Please keep a look out at home what your child is accessing online.

The children will also continue to build on their understanding of e-safety and the importance this has when using the Internet and technology.

Home Learning

Home learning takes place on paper in the home learnig books provided by the teacher. Please complete as many tasks as you can and bring back to school for Friday 12th July.

 

Helping your child with

reading

Your child's reading books are now changed throughout the week.

Remember to read every day with your child. This could be you reading to them or them reading to you.

Don't forget the importance of reading to your child. Bedtime story time is a wonderful time to share reading.

Reading Challenge

We have had more children receiving book prizes for reading 3 reads at home each week. Remember to keep a note in your child's reading record.

At the end of the week if your child has read at least 3 times they will get a reading sticker.  If they keep this up over the half-term, they will also get a reading prize. Please remember to write in your child's reading record when they have read.

Bedtime Story Event

The bedtime story event went well in school. The children got to hear 4 different well loved stories. They all had a wonderful time.

SATS (Standard, Assessment Tasks)

From this year, SAT's were non-compulsory. However, this half term the children will be completing their End of Key Stage 1 Assessment tasks set by the DFE. We have chosen to carry on using the test material this year to help teacher judgements and moderation.

We are proud of all our children's achievements over this year and be reassured these assessments will take place as part of normal practice.

If your child is required to resit the phonics screening check this year they will do so the week of the 10th June.

 

KS1 SPORTS DAY

KS1 Sports Day will be taking place on Tuesday 9th July. You are welcome to join us from 9:15am on the field at TDA. Children will be going round taking part in 6 different activities with their class. Pop along from 9:15am and find your child's class.

                                                     

Country Dancing Festival

Thank you to the Country Dancing Club for taking part in this year's Festival which took place at The Peterborough School. 18 schools took part and our children definitely did us proud. 

Than you to the parents for bringing them along adn joining in with the dances at the end of the night.
