Wellbeing

At Queen's Drive, we work very hard to support children in school with personal development, wellbeing and mental health. This is through the curriculum, assemblies and also through interventions.

Massage in Schools Programme

We use massage and mindfulness activities daily to help children return calmly from the playground and support them with feelings and friendships.

Mental Health Support Team NHS

We are a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) school

MHSTs have three core functions:

  • to deliver evidence-based interventions for mild-to-moderate mental health issues;

  • support the senior mental health lead  in each school or college to introduce or develop whole school or college approach and;

  • give timely advice to school and college staff, and liaise with external specialist service to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education.

Are you struggling with your child's behaviour at home? The MHST has support.

We also have a number of support therapies that we deliver in school ourselves.

Drawing and talking therapy

Lego based therapy

This is a small group therapy that we use to support children in different ways. The child works with up to 4 children with a trained member of school staff.

ELSA (Emotional Literacy support assistant)

We now have a staff member trained to deliver this. ELSAs are warm, kind and caring people who want to make children and young people feel happy in school and to reach their potential socially, emotionally and academically. They understand the barriers to learning that some children and young people might have and can help them with this. They can support the children and young person’s emotional development and help them cope with life’s challenges. ELSAs will also help children and young people to find solutions to problems they might have. An ELSA is not there to fix problems but to help them find their own solutions and offer that important support to a child or young person.

NESSIE

Nessie supports the mental health of children, young people and their families through emotionally based school avoidance programme (EBSA). We have a staff member trained to provide sessions or an outreach worker can deliver in school sessions too.
